What comes in a typical box each month?
Each month includes 4 separate art projects with all materials needed to complete each project, written instruction sheets with tips and support for each project, and a virtual guide including a featured project video lesson. Many projects have plenty of supplies and materials to explore and engage with them in many different ways, or to share with a sibling or friend during a playdate.
What are the projects like?
Think of these projects as "invitations to create." Each one is born from a foundation of process art, meaning the process is more important than the product. You'll find everything from clay and sculpture building invitations to painting prompts to working with new and different materials like wool roving and learning a wet felting process. We've poured our very favorite materials, processes, and projects (from 10 years of running classes with children in our studio!) into Studio Box. Each box is different, with 4 new bags full of exciting materials. Your child will explore new processes with each Studio Box, setting them up to continue creating all month long.
What comes in the Starter Kit?
You'll receive our Starter Kit along with the first month of your Studio Box when you purchase a 3 Month Gift Pack. The Starter Kit includes: our favorite oversized art tray, an art rag to clean up any messes, a high quality paint brush, and 2 posters: our "You are the artist. You get to decide." poster, and our "Tips for Talking to Artists" poster with specific questions, sentence starters, and language to support your child's creating experience. These posters hang in our Studio in Boulder, CO, is the exact same language we use in the studio, and are the foundation upon which our Studio Box is built.
Please note, A la Carte boxes for single purchase do not come with a Starter Kit, unless you choose to bundle it with a Starter Kit.
Do I need to provide any other materials?
Almost never. If any additional materials are needed, they will be readily available in your house, like a cup or container to use as a water bucket.
What ages is Studio Box for?
Studio Box is recommended for children ages 4-8 years old. Because Studio Box engages children in open-ended process art, a wide range of ages will enjoy Studio Box. Each child will engage with the materials and project prompts in their own way. That's the beauty of Studio Box. You are the artist. You get to decide.
Will I need to help my child or can they do the projects independently?
You know your child best! Depending on the age and style of your child, they might work completely independently, or they might need some support. Each month includes a QR code right inside the top of your box taking you to a virtual greeting and video instructions for one of the month's projects. Written instructions are also included with each set of materials so that you know exactly how to set your child up for success. Each instruction sheet has around 4 parts, and most start with a simple prompt: Spread out your materials on your tray and see what you have! Some parents enjoy creating alongside their child, and others enjoy setting them up and then stepping back to watch their young artist work. With practice, even young children will develop autonomy and confidence getting out their supplies and working independently.
We recommend always working on top of your art tray that's included in your starter kit. A specific space along with the physical boundary of the tray can have a big impact on engagement and promote independence. Plus, it makes cleanup a breeze.
What about siblings? Can 2 kids share a box?
Each box includes 4 separately packaged projects, and many projects have enough materials to create the project several times--making Studio Box very sharable! Some projects might only have enough materials to create it once or twice, so you should be prepared to support siblings if they're splitting a box. You can also now purchase a separate Starter Kit to help two children share one Studio Box! Ultimately, you know your children best and whether sharing a box will be successful for them.
When will I get my box?
3 Month Gift Pack purchases made between the 1st-15th will be shipped on the 16th of the same month. 3 Month Gift Pack purchases made between the 16th-end of month will be shipped on the 1st of the following month. The next boxes will ship on the same schedule for the following two consecutive months. For example, if you purchase between December 1 - 15th, your first box will ship December 16th, and your consecutive boxes will ship January 16th and February 16th. If you purchase between December 16th - 31st, your first box will ship January 1st, with your consecutive boxes shipping February 1st and March 1st.
A la Carte boxes ship within 3 business days of purchase.
How can I gift Studio Box?
We'll put a note in the first box with a custom message from you! Please keep it short and sweet (under 30 words) and leave it in the Notes box at checkout. We'll take care of the rest! If you forget to leave the note at checkout, no problem at all -- just send us an email at studiobox@tinkerartstudio.com.
What if I want to change my shipping address?
You can do that! You may change or update your shipping address at any time by contacting studiobox@tinkerartstudio.com. You are responsible for ensuring that your shipping address is accurate and up-to-date prior to your box being shipped.
What if I'm going out of town and I want to skip a month?
You can do that too! Contact studiobox@tinkerartstudio.com and we are happy to help.
What if I want to cancel my subscription?
Your 3 Month Gift Pack automatically cancels at the end of the 3 month term. No need to take any further action and your card will not be charged again. Please note that you are not able to cancel your subscription during your 3 month term, and refunds are not offered. For more information please see our Terms & Conditions and Subscription Policy.
Can I buy just one box?
Yes! We have a limited number of A la Carte boxes available for single purchase each month. These boxes are only available after our subscribers' boxes have shipped, and once they're gone, they're gone! You can purchase an A la Carte box with our without our Starter Kit. They are a great way to keep Studio Box coming after your 3 month subscription ends, or to try out Studio Box! Check back often as we'll add new A la Carte boxes each month.
